The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From The Tree

Young trumpet ace Joey Curreri follows in his famous father's musical footsteps.

Young trumpet ace Joey Curreri is making a name for himself in the jazz world, with performances around the world and acclaimed recordings as both a leader and sideman.

Originally from Los Angeles, Curreri’s unique artistic outlook stems from the trumpet tradition learned from his mentors, jazz luminaries Brian Lynch and Ingrid Jensen. As a recording artist, Curreri currently has released four collections of original music He also received a Downbeat Student Award for”Outstanding Improvised Solo,” and he’s a much sought-after sideman, recording with artists like Deron Johnson, Toomas Keski-Santti, and Nikos Chatzisakos. Curreri has also performed at top venues in the US and abroad, and in 2023 traveled to Japan to perform with jazz piano legend Makoto Ozone. In 2025, he embarked on a European tour with Joris Dudli’s band featuring Vincent Herring.

But Curreri’s musical mentorship started long before his jazz studies began, as the son of famed keyboardist, composer and television actor Lee Curreri.

If you were anywhere near a television in the early 1980s, it would have been impossible to miss the elder Curreri on the hit TV show Fame, where he played keyboard wiz Bruno Martelli. These days, Lee Curreri is a celebrated keyboardist, composer and songwriter and has worked with artists like Natalie Cole and Phil Perry. In fact, his album, Aquabox has a booklet on the inside containing pictures of Joey.

And so in the Curreri household, music is indeed a family affair.
