The expressive and forward-thinking musical voice of New York City jazz guitarist Allan Bezama.

Allan Bezama is a rising guitar star on the NYC scene, known for his expressive playing and deep respect for the jazz tradition. Bezama has developed a distinctive sound that melds bebop phrasing with a modern harmonic and rhythmic conception. Bezama immersed himself in jazz under the guidance of the late guitarist and educator Vic Juris, a mentor whose influence continues to resonate throughout his work.

“My playing style comes from the guitarists whose music sparked that childlike sense of wonder and made me want to keep exploring,” he tells us.  “I’ve always believed that every song, no matter the style, deserves to be played with an understanding of the tradition it comes from. That mindset has led me to study as many musical styles as I can, because each one has something unique to teach. When I play, I carry all of those influences with me – from Wes Montgomery on a jazz standard, to Albert King on a blues, Jimmy Nolen on a funk groove, or Toninho Horta on a Brazilian tune. Those voices are always under my fingers, but my goal has never been to imitate them. It’s to honor what makes each style special while adding my own perspective and personality to the music.”

Bezama has shared the stage with acclaimed artists like Jeff “Tain” Watts and Steve Wilson. His performances have taken him to established venues throughout the New York jazz scene, where audiences have come to appreciate his ability to balance the sounds of past, present and beyond. Whether appearing as a bandleader or sideman, Bezama brings a signature approach that reflects both his musical roots and his forward looking artistic vision.

In recent years, Allan Bezama has continued to expand his profile through recordings and live performances that showcase his evolving artistry. His 2025 release Moving Forward, highlights his talents as both a guitarist and composer, presenting original music that blends tradition with a contemporary spark.

“Allan Bezama is one of the most exciting and innovative jazz guitarists in the scene today,” says jazz great Mark Whitfield. “He has managed to blend the sound and style of the legendary titans of jazz guitar with interesting modern innovations to forge his own unique approach.  As Allan follows this path, I believe he will make a significant contribution to this great legacy.”
