Be sure to check out what's in store for Jazzy July at the Django!
We have several exciting shows happening over the next two weeks at the Django! Our Wednesday Jazz Vocalist Series continues with Naama Gheber at 7PM and Vuyo Sotashe at 9PM. Sotashe has toured with multi–Grammy Award winner and Pulitzer Prize winner Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on their 2018 Winter Tour across the United States. On Thursday, acclaimed pianist David Kikoski and his trio will perform followed by the Django All-Stars, a super group of several band leaders coming together as one unit: Ken Fowser, Bruce Harris, Anthony Wonsey, Alex Claffy, and Joe Farnsworth. Our 7PM-9:30PM shows over the weekend feature Philadelphia-bred drummer Anwar Marshall on Friday, and trombonist/arranger David Gibson and his quartet on Saturday. Ken Fowser continues his Friday night residency with special guests each week alongside pianist Mike LeDonne appearing for a special Saturday night show featuring Eric Alexander on saxophone, David “Happy” Williams on bass, and Willie Jones III on drums!
Vocalists Vanessa Perea and Richard Cortez get the following week started on Wednesday night. An evening of Soul-Jazz is set for Thursday, as organist Akiko Tsuruga takes the stage at 7PM, followed by Ian Hendrickson-Smith, (saxman for The Roots, Amy Winehouse, Sharon Jones) at 9PM. Stacy Dillard appears on Friday, and David Hazeltine and his trio perform on Saturday. One of the most in-demand bassists in NYC, Barry Stephenson, will lead his quintet featuring acclaimed trumpeter Giveton Gelin, for a special show next Saturday at 10PM! Don’t miss out on all of this great music coming up at the Django!
